| Stage 1 | ||
| To begin with you are going to look at a variety of forms of shelter drawn from examples all over the world. This will help you identify their similar and different features, and put them into groups or categories. | ||

| Shelters can be classified or grouped in a number of ways. Many will fall into more than one group. For example a tent is temporary, mobile and has a frame. | ||
Stage 2
Next you will look at a lot of shelters of every kind imaginable. There is a Recording Sheet for you to download and print out, and this will help you find out about the different types, structures, purposes, materials used, different uses etc. of all these shelters. By the end of this stage you should have a good general knowledge of all aspects of shelters, and hopefully enough to save your life when you are cast away. |
Stage 3 This
is where you find out if you have learned anything, because you
are going to be cast away on an island. NOT a nice sunny island
in the South Pacific with lots of palm trees and warm sandy beaches,
but a freezing cold, wet and windy one in the South Atlantic near
the Antarctic. You will have plenty of food with you, and there
will be lots of fresh water, but survival will still be a real
problem. Without
a proper shelter you won't last the night -
let alone until a ship comes by to rescue you! |
