Conclusion
You will have learned
an awful lot from this WebQuest, and you will learn even more from
the practical work which will probably follow it. You are not very
likely ever to find yourself in a truly life-threatening situation
like this, but who knows, and if you do you will now have some idea
of how to start surviving.
Above all we hope
you have become more aware of some things you might not have thought
of before. For example:-
- Without proper
shelter the human body can only survive in a surprisingly narrow
range of temperatures.
- Rain can be dangerous
- in cold conditions you must be able to keep dry, and dry out again
after getting wet. If you can't, you may not survive.
- Wind can also
be dangerous. It need not be a terrific gale either. If you are wet
and exposed, even a fairly gentle wind can be a killer if it is only
a few degrees below freezing.
- Have you thought
of how much we depend on energy of various kinds - especially electricity.
It would be interesting sometime to write a story (for Literacy perhaps)
where all electricity in the world has been destroyed by a virus.
There is no electricity of any kind - ever again. Just think of all
the things that would no longer work. Central heating for a start
- without a pump to circulate the water, the radiators don't get
hot (and the boiler explodes!!).
More
than anything though, we hope you enjoyed it! |
