Did she fall or was she pushed?

On the 28th of February 1908, a railway carriage door flew open before the train had come to a halt at Eastbourne Station.

Edith Houghland tumbled out, struck her head on the platform, and died.

The only thing that remained was her travelling case with her possessions inside.

In the Webquest "Who was Edith Houghland?" Aunt Lucy found that she was related to this Victorian lady, and has discovered quite a lot about her.   The only evidence was the case and her belongings and some of the objects seemed rather strange to be in a travelling case.  Just like all good mysteries it has whetted Aunt Lucy's appetite and she now wants to know more.  She wants you and you colleague to investigate some 'new' evidence that has come to light, and give her a 'balanced' view as to whether Edith fell or was pushed?  You are a pair of ace reporters, and you are keen fans of Sherlock Holmes.

You always use his methods in your investigative reporting, so you will be looking for clues in all the evidence you can find.

clues

  • Investigate the 'new' witness statements along with the old photographs, and see if you can find anything suspicious about her death?

  • Write a newspaper article with the title "Did she fall or was she pushed" to satisfy both your Editor and Aunt Lucy.

Make your article exciting and try to write at least part of it in the way Holmes might have written it.
