Resources Needed

This WebQuest is written such that it can be used as a complete unit in itself.  At the same time however, care has been taken to avoid over prescription and rigidity toward the teacher (or pupil), leaving room for individual interpretation or modification as required.  In particular, much will depend upon the availability of suitable CAD or drawing software, and teachers may wish to steer their pupils toward a particular package.

A crucial aspect of this WebQuest is that it should relieve the teacher of most of the planning and preparation, and enable a quality interaction with the pupils.  It is envisaged that many teachers will wish to join in the exploration with their pupils, sharing and encouraging their enthusiasm for, and enjoyment of the process.

Resources needed for this WebQuest will vary somewhat depending upon the emphasis you wish to place on some or all of its aspects.  This will be largely influenced by whether your focus is upon ICT or D&T, but other local and personal factors will also prevail.  The following resources may prove very useful;--

  • Multiple copies of "Argos" or "Kays" type catalogues.
  • As above, but suitable for cutting up.
  • Paper, pencils, paints, crayons, glue etc..
  • Technical drawing equipment may be required.
  • A digital camera could be used at numerous points in the Quest.
  • Access to any relevant CD software.  (Clipart may be useful).
  • Parental occupations are always worth exploring for specialist information and resources
  • The school Librarian could be alerted, and asked to select out books or indicate the best sections to find information
  • If you happen to have a building site nearby, it may be possible to arrange for pupils to visit (for example) the showhouse or a part-completed structure
