Getting ideas from artists

How many of you have struggled to get a picture to look right and have given up with frustration?  You know what you want to achieve but don't know how to achieve it.  This WebQuest may provide you with some ideas, and it will certainly help you to develop your own work.

One of the ways that artists get pictures to look 'right' is by getting the 'tone' (Light and dark areas) in the right places.   The way they do this varies depending on the materials they are using.

Your first job is to study the work of as many different artists as you can, and look at the way they have used materials to achieve tone in their work.

You can then use the method you think most effective to translate a digital portrait of yourself into a collage, painting, drawing or print.
