Congratulations -- you just got a job as a tour guide.
Before you begin your new job, you will have to go on a training course, and the best way to learn the ropes is to choose a country you would like to visit, and use that as the basis for your training.
You are quite lucky because three other people have been taken on at the same time as you, so you will be able to share out the workload on the course. The final result will be a presentation to some imaginary clients so you can advise them on all aspects of their holiday - just like the real thing
In order to become a top notch tour guide you will need to know about or prepare;-
Luckily the Internet makes it dead easy to find out your information. You can also use any other resources of course, such as an atlas, encyclopaedia, magazines, newspapers or ask Mum and Dad.
The training course offers three options. The first option is Brazil:
The second option is Greece:
The third option is Australia:
In order to complete the training course, each person in your group will have a specific job.
1.Two people will be the Historians. They will gather information on the geography, the language and the climate etc.
2. One person will be the Illustrator. His/her job will be to reproduce the country's map, flag, and any other pictures, diagrams etc. that you decide to include.
3. One member will be the Planner. He/she will gather information on some interesting things to do while visiting your country for presentation as a Fact File.
Your project will be evaluated using the following standards:
Excellent: 1. All required tasks completed, very well presented with exciting language and layout.
2. Oral presentation is very well organized with useful information and is clear.
Good: 1. All required tasks completed to a good standard of presentation.
2. Oral presentation is well organized, but missing some information.
Average: 1. Not all tasks completed, but a fair effort at most of them.
2. Oral presentation not very well organized and a bit confused.
Below Average: 1. Most tasks not completed.
2. Oral presentation poorly prepared and not very informative at all.
You now have a fair idea of what is involved in planning a holiday abroad. This will not only help you plan your own real holidays, but will also help you to ask sensible questions of a real travel agent so you get the best possible service.
