Old Malvern Images
I have a series of images here which all show the same area, Belle Vue Terrace. Do you think this is a good name for this area? Do you recognise them now? It might be an idea to print off each one and then sort them in to order of age. Some are surprising. Copy and paste them on to one sheet of paper.
These two look very similar. Is it possible to decide which comes first? There are some interesting differences. You might find some 'hot spots' on them. See if the pointer changes to a hand. It is worth looking at
- differences in the ivy on Mount Pleasant. Has it grown or had they cut it back?
- street lights
- clothing
- transport
- has a pump been added or removed?
I recognise Mount Pleasant Hotel to the right of the path leading up to the hills. These are the 99 Steps (though there are more than that! About 104) The buildings to the left are no longer there. Next to Mount Pleasant is what is now Lloyd's Bank but it does not have the same number of windows and there is another building there! So there are some clues! I know that this building on the very right of the picture is next to Belle Vue Hotel.

So how does this picture fit in? There's Belle Vue Hotel but what is to the left of it? Does this help tell part of our story of the building?
At a later date you might like to investigate the date of this picture. It is very interesting!

Here we are looking at Belle Vue Terrace again. Mount Pleasant is at the end, then The Crown Hotel and Belle Vue Hotel. I don't know what the nearest building is. This is from Mary Southalls' guide to Malvern 1825.
And here is the original picture from the trunk.
Is this modern day? The buildings look the same. What about the transport? Look for some hot spots again.
This is the photo from the same place taken in April 2003
