Background Grafenberg is in the Jesenik area of Czechoslovakia. Jesenik is divided into two sections, Jesenik-mesto (town) and Jesenik-lazne (spas). The original names for them were Fryvaldov (Freiwaldau) and Graefenberg. The town is located in Silesia, in the Jeseniky Mountains (das Gesenke).
