How?

Print off the advert:

  • right click on it
  • save as ( save to suitable folder)
  • open in a word processing document by going to
    • insert >picture >from file>locate image
  • copy the address of the web page on to the page to acknowledge the source

The 's' stands for 'shillings.
There were 20 shillings in a pound, so a shilling is the same as __ pence?

The 'd' stands for 'pennies'.
There were 12 pennies in a shilling so 6 pennies was half a shilling.

Task

  • Underline on the map all the places mentioned in the description that you can find .
  • Click on the small 'Aerial photo' symbol to see an aerial view
  • Click on 'Map overlay' and allow the map overlay to load.
  • Note the name of a particular street. You can see its name above. Why would it have that name?
  • Look at a very clever aerial view of Matlock in 1840. Read how it was achieved.
